Transformers and Lighting Accessories: In order to calculate the appropriate size of transformer needed, simply total the amount of lights you plan to incorporate into your landscape. Add the total amount of watts of all your lights combined, to determine the wattage of the transformer needed. It's always a good idea to leave additional wattage for expansion of the system, or small voltage drops caused by long runs of wire. Remember the transformer will only consume as much electricity as being used by the lighting so choosing a larger transformer for future lighting needs will not increase energy costs.
